William “Bill” Edward Walsh was summoned to heaven in the early morning of July 19, 2024. Born on August 23, 1939 to Paul and Lillian Walsh, Bill grew up on Juliette Street in Dorchester, and graduated from Boston Technical High School. He served in the army, deploying to Korea. He married Ann McDonough on September 2, 1961. Bill worked for New England Telephone/Verizon and was blessed to retire as a manager at the age of 52. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and cherished his family.
Bill is survived by his soulmate Ann and four daughters: Carolyn and her husband Timothy Brown, of Leesburg, Virginia, Marie, and her husband Charlie Miller, of Logan Utah, Teresa, and her husband Frank Rosinski, of Braintree, and Juliana and her husband Lincoln Kaiser, of Westwood. Bill and Ann raised their family in Braintree and later moved to East Bridgewater where they resided for almost nineteen years.
Known as “Papa”, Bill was a loving grandfather to Broderick and Nathan Brown, Kathleen and Paul Miller, Anna Rosinski, and Coleman and Mackenzie Kaiser. He was a consistent and positive presence in their lives and was extremely proud of each of them.
He also leaves behind his sister Juliana Westerheide along with nieces and nephews Donna, Kevin and James Walsh, Will Westerheide, and Christina, Joanna, and Terrence Flynn. Bill was predeceased by his brother, Paul Walsh.
Bill was a loyal friend, ally and companion. He loved watching all sports and particularly enjoyed playing golf and candlepin bowling, coaching his daughters’ softball teams and cheering on his daughters and grandchildren– a loud gregarious fan!
Bill fully embraced all things Irish - his heritage, music, dancing, and Guinness. He extensively researched his and Ann’s Irish ancestry, and he and Ann were active members of the Boston Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann (CCE). Bill loved Irish set dancing – he was always ready to dance a set and was so enthusiastic he taught dance while wintering in Siesta Key. He and Ann traveled through the United States, Canada, and of course Ireland with their CCE friends. Many of his most treasured memories were tied to this group.
Bill Walsh lived with purpose, compassion, and kindness. “Cead Mile Failte”- a hundred thousand welcomes were extended to everyone everywhere. He was a force. Bill will be dearly missed.
Bill will be interred in a private, family ceremony. There will be a celebration of Bill’s life on Friday, July 26, 2024, from 1:00 – 3:30, at the Irish Cultural Centre, 200 New Boston Drive, Canton, MA.
