William Edward Cass “Bill”, 85, of Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts formerly of Westwood, MA and Roslindale, MA, passed away peacefully on Dec 8, 2024. Born in Boston, MA on Jan 13, 1939, he was the son of John Francis Cass “Franny Cass” and Bernice Cass (Hogan).
His mother saw a spark in him and encouraged him to enroll in the electrical school and military program at Charlestown High School. After graduating, he joined the U.S. Navy and was a proud electrical engineer on a variety of planes stationed out of Weymouth Air Field.
Bill was a proud employee of the Polaroid Corporation for 38 years. A career Electrical Engineer. He was as loyal as it comes. Everyone loved him. His personality was magnetic. The people he worked with became his best friends and second family. Many of them were the first people he would call to go fishing, go to Nascar Daytona 500 races and bring their families together on camping trips. The hockey community also became a second family as he spent most of his free time in a hockey rink for the better part of 55 years, right up until last season.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, all things sports, volunteering at the Y-D Redsox, giving “tours” to his favorite spots, chasing sunsets with his granddaughters, listening to music early in the morning, sitting on his back porch and watching the birds and sharing memories, refereeing and coaching hockey, watching his grandchildren do what they loved while being their biggest fan, and spending time in Florida with his snowbird family he created with his wife Pat.
Bill was the world’s best neighbor, and always treated his neighbors like family. He loved to spend time with all of his neighbors and was always like a “Papa” or another Dad to many of them through the years.
Bill will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband of 64 years to his wife Patricia (Carbone) of Yarmouth Port, formerly from Westwood, who he started dating at 16 years old. An adored father to Wiliam E Cass Jr. “Billy” and his wife Jeanne (Finell) of Norwood, Michael F Cass and wife Sharon (Gurka) of Longmeadow and Lisa Cass McDonald and her husband Michael McDonald of Medfield, MA. He was the World’s best “Papa” to April, Cassie, & Michaela McDonald and Jaice, Aiden and Tarin Cass. Proud Pup Papa to Minnie, Butch and Hannah. He always loved his fur babies. Brother to Richard Cass and his family formerly of Millis. Loving brother in law to Richard Turcotte and the late Rosemary Turcotte of Burlington, and the late Frank Carbone and his wife Connie Carbone of Florida. Bill had many cousins, nieces and nephews who he always cherished especially Kathy Christopher Lee and her brothers Larry & Michael Christopher of Florida. Pat’s cousin and flower girl in their wedding Debbie Newslow of Florida was like a sister to Bill.
