BROOKS – William G. Jr. "Bill", of Westwood, died March 2nd, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Beloved husband of Jean M. (Gillooly) Brooks for 59 years. Loving father of William G. Brooks III and his wife Donna of Westwood, Paul Brooks and his wife Susan of Waltham and Mary Tamburrini and her husband Vincent of Buzzards Bay. Devoted grandfather of David Brooks and his wife Andrea of Medfield; Kevin Brooks of Medfield; Laura and Mark Brooks both of Westwood and Andrea and Deanna Brooks both of Waltham. Great grandfather of John "Jack" William Brooks of Medfield. Brother of Edna Wilson of Maryland and uncle of Jane Mitchell and Karen Gillette both of Maryland.
Bill was a graduate of B.C. High School class of 1948 and Boston College class of 1953. He was a member of the Board of Trustees at Xaverian Brothers High School from 1978 – 1995. He was one of the first six Eucharist Ministers at St. Margaret Mary Church in Westwood to be commissioned following Vatican II. He was on the committee for 28 years for the Tom McElroy Memorial Scholarship, which is the largest athletic memorial scholarship at B.C. Bill was president of the BoSox Club (the largest Red Sox fan club) in 1999 – 2000 and he coached baseball in Westwood for 25 years … 15 years with Little League and the last 10 with American Legion. Bill worked for Mobil Oil for 30 years servicing the trucking industry in New England from the Canadian border to southern Connecticut.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St. (off Route 109) Westwood on Wednesday March 5th from 4-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood, MA 02090 on Thursday morning March 6th at 10am. Interment at New Westwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to St. Margaret Mary Church at the address indicated above.
