Tilly Margareta (Kultau) Cardinale, aged 90, passed away on January 9th, 2024 surrounded by loved ones at the Decatur House in Sandwich, MA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Joseph Frank Cardinale of Westwood, MA, also Her Mother, Anna (Leuck) Berndt & Father Ferdinand Kultau, as well as her deceased Sister Martha.
Tilly was born in Altenhassleu), a small town in Gelnhausen, Germany on April 14th, 1933. She met and married Joseph Cardinale while he was stationed in the US Army in Gelnhausen after WWII. Tilly moved to the United States where she raised her family, working in a sewing factory of Boston’s Chinatown and perfecting her English by reading the newspaper.
She (Tilly) was famous for her fashion-forward style, often decked in big accessories, bright colors, and animal prints. As the life of every party, Tilly will likely be remembered by everyone who met her for her immaculate sense of humor paired with unconditional love for all. Tilly loved to feed her family her favorite dishes, and many will miss her notorious German streusel.
Tilly is survived and missed by her 3 children. Donna M. Klucevsek and her husband Frank of Bourne, Frank Cardinale and his wife Bonnie of Seekonk and Juliet A. Cardinale of Norwood. A special “Omi” to Kristin, Joseph, Annamarie, Michelle, Jim, Charlie, Ashley and Christopher. A loving Great Grandmother "Omi" to Lucia, Nila, Viola, Giovanni, Francesca, Monty, Owen, Michael, and Ivy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., Westwood on Wednesday January 17, from 4-7pm. a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 18, in St. Denis Church, 157 Washington St., Westwood at 10am. Interment New Westwood Cemetery.
