Thomas A. Horne, 78, of Westwood, MA and West Yarmouth, MA passed away July 23rd at Care Dimensions Hospice in Lincoln, MA after a 2 1/2 year battle with cancer. Tom grew up in Stoneham, MA and attended Malden Catholic High School, where he was Class President and basketball captain. He went on to UNH where he was also basketball captain, and scored 1000 points - a record that still holds. After graduation, Tom served as a courier for the US Army out of Washington, DC. He was honorably discharged as 1st LT in 1968. He worked for Xerox Corporation from 1971-2009 and retired as VP of Major Accounts in North America. Tom loved working for Xerox and made many lifelong friends. When Tom retired, he started coaching at Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood. He started with football and moved on to basketball, baseball, and golf. He was such a positive motivator for young athletes and really loved working with them in all sports. Tom was an excellent golfer. He belonged to Cummaquid Golf Club in Yarmouthport where he loved playing when at his Cape house, making many friends throughout the years. Tom leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Judy (Ostberg) and his daughter Wendy Horne and her husband, Anthony Maltacea. He was predeceased by his son, Geoffrey. He also leaves his sister, Sara Slowik, and her husband, Ted, of North Carolina and four nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's memory to: Globe Santa Fund, PO Box 491, Medford MA 02155 or Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
