FAYER - Stephen Burt died November 29, 2015. He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1935. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania. After a successful career in commercial television he worked for Blackside, Inc. in Boston where he won an Emmy for his script "Mississippi: Is This America" a part of the Eyes on the Prize series for PBS. He received the Writers Guild of America award for his work on George Wallace: Settin' the Woods on Fire. He co-authored Voices of Freedom, a history of the civil rights movement, named one of the notable books of the year by the New York Times. Steve was an adventurer, having helped build a two-masted schooner in Denmark and then crossing the Atlantic with five others on a very risky voyage. He was the strength of the Fayers and protector of his two younger brothers. He was the forty year partner of Charlotte Gilmore another of the strong souls. In lieu of flowers please contribute to Boston's Jimmy Fund or the American Cancer Society. Funeral services and interment are private.
