Robert J. Knox of Upton, formerly a 50 year resident of Westwood, died April 26, 2009.
Beloved husband of the late Marie D. (Madden) Knox for 55 years. Loving father of Robert J. Knox Jr. and his wife Betsy of Upton. Devoted grandfather of Eben and Jacob Knox. Robert was born in Melrose to James P. and Bertha (Tarpey) Knox. He is pre-deceased by his brother Charles Knox of Waltham and his sister Barbara Bradford of CO.
Robert is a graduate of Boston College High School 1945, Tufts College, School of Economics, 1949 and Cambridge College with a Masters in Education / Counseling. WWII Veteran, Army Air Corps. He is the past Commander of the American Legion Post 320, Westwood. A member of the Westwood Police Auxiliary and the Westwood finance Committee, Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Robert was a C.L.U. for Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. for many years as well as John Hancock Life Insurance Co., he retired from Billings Human Services as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor. His true passion was being a member and sponsor in AA for over 30 years were he was helped and became devoted to helping others.
Visiting hours will be held for Robert and Marie in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home 55 High Rock St. Westwood on Friday May 8th from 4:00- 8:00pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for both Robert and Marie on Saturday, May 9th in St. Denis Church, 157 Washington St. (Route 1A) Westwood at 9am. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
