Almy, Robert B. Jr.
Robert B. Almy Jr. "Beezah" of Dedham and Marion Massachusetts died July 21, 2018 after a period of declining health. He was 90 years old.
Beezah is survived by his children, Robert Almy of Lynnfield, MA, Leslie (Stimmel) Guggiari of Lugano, Switzerland, Beth Buchholz of Pembroke, MA, and John Almy of Sherborn, MA; his nine grandchildren; and his 4 great-grandchildren; as well as his brother Edward "Ned" Almy of Savannah, Georgia. He is preceded in death by his wife Lavinia "Winkie" Almy, of Dedham and Marion; and his Sister L. Rosamond "Darby" Chambers.
Beezah was born on December 8, 1927 in Boston to Rosamond and Robert Almy; the family lived in Dedham and Westport MA during his childhood. Beezah graduated in 1946 from the Noble and Greenough school in Dedham and attended Harvard University. He spent much of his adult life in the financial management business, finally retiring from First Albany in 2000. He and his wife were strong proponents of higher education and supported several educational programs and youth sports programs through direct involvement.
Beezah served as a trustee of Camp Onaway, the Noble and Greenough School, and the Brimmer and May School; he served as Chair of the Board and was honored as Trustee Emeritus at the latter. An avid golfer, he was member of the Board of Governors and President at the Kittansett Club and was active in the Francis Ouimet Scholarship program. He was a member of the Lodge of Saint Andrew for 55 years and served in several leadership positions.
Beezah will be remembered as a kind and supportive parent and grandparent, reliable friend, leading community figure, and true gentleman. He was an accomplished athlete and especially enjoyed hockey, skiing and golf.
A celebration of Beezah's life will be held at 10:30 AM on August 28 at the Kittansett Country Club in Marion Massachusetts.
