YOUNG - G. Richard, of Westwood, passed away on Thursday June 19, 2014 at Clark House at Fox Hill Village. He was 99. Loving husband of the late Marjorie Squires Young. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York he received BS and MBA degrees from M.I.T in 1937. In 1939 he married the former Marjorie Squires in New York City. For short periods of time thereafter, he lived and worked in Buffalo, New York, Birmingham, Alabama and Lima, Ohio before joining the Weatherhead Company in 1948 and moving to Cleveland, Ohio. In 1960 he joined Cambridge based Arthur D. Little, the world's first management consulting firm, and moved the family to Wellesley. While in Wellesley, was an active member of The Wellesley Country Club and later Braeburn Country Club as well as being an active member and supporter of the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church. In 1970 he moved to London, England as Vice President of ADL and Managing Director of Arthur D. Little, Ltd. While there, ADL acquired Cambridge Consultants, Ltd and he became its Chairman. After three years in London, they moved back to newly opened Wellesley Green. In 1980, he retired from ADL and moved to Newport, RI where he was an active member and supporter of Trinity Church, the Newport Country Club and the Newport Reading Room. In 1992 they moved to Fox Hill Village, where he lived until moving into Clark House in 2013. Mr. Young is survived by two sons, Richard C. and his wife Deborah L. of Key West, FL and Newport, RI, and Stephen S. and his wife Kathleen T. of Boston and a daughter, Pamela I. Young and her husband Thomas Loosmore of Hampton, NH; four grandchildren, Matthew and his wife Allison, Becky Smith and her husband EJ, Elizabeth and Katie McCullough and her husband Greg; and seven great grandchildren, Isabella, Owen, Emma, Jack, Rick, Davis and Ryan.
A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held at the Wellesley Hills Congregational Church, 207 Washington Street, Wellesley Hills, MA 02181 on Friday June 27, 2014 at 10:30 AM.
