Regina Katherine (McGee) McElroy, of Westwood, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2024. She was 92. Regina was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose McGee of Marshfield.
Regina married the love of her life, the late Thomas D. McElroy, in 1957 and raised four children in Westwood.
Regina spent many years dedicating her time raising money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in honor of her oldest son Thomas, who lost his battle to cancer in 1981. She was instrumental in the launch of the Tom McElroy Jr Soccer Scholarship at Boston College which went on to become the largest memorial scholarship at Boston College. Later in life, she recaptured her love of tap dancing and went on to form the “Timesteppers” dance team performing tap shows at local events to raise money for the Jimmy Fund in Tommy’s name. In total, she raised more than $20,000 for the Jimmy Fund through these performances in his name. She was also well known in Westwood over the years for her passionate involvement in her sons activities as well as her volunteer work at Glad Rags that supported MSPCC.
Loving wife to the late Thomas McElroy. Cherished mother to the late Thomas D. McElroy, Jr. of Westwood, John F. McElroy of Virginia Beach, Michael J. McElroy and his wife Tracey of Natick, and William A. McElroy of Westwood. Loving grandmother to Jack and Brendan McElroy. Sister to the late Frank McGee. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St (off Rte. 109) WESTWOOD, on Monday, March 11th from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning, March 12th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Denis Church, 157 Washington St, Westwood. Interment at New Westwood Cemetery.
