Buonopane, Ralph A., of Westwood, formerly of East Boston, died August 7th, 2018. Beloved husband of Irene C. (Scimone) Buonopane for 53 years. Loving father of Ralph J. Buonopane and his wife Susan of Medfield and Stephen G. Buonopane and his wife Samantha of Lewisburg, PA. Devoted grandfather of Paul, James, Ezra and Hazel Buonopane. Uncle of John Welle and his wife Kymm and their daughter Amelia of Melrose. Also survived by many loving cousins.
Ralph was educated at Boston Latin School and Northeastern University, where he was awarded the degree of Ph.D.. He taught Chemical Engineering there for 40 years, 15 of those as Chairman of the Chemical Engineering Department. Ralph was an officer and fellow in several professional associations, most notably AIChE and ASEE. He was active in Westwood town government, the Westwood Historical Society, and the Westwood Historical Commission. Ralph was the founding Vice President of the Partnership of the Historic Bostons. A faithful communicant of St. Timothy Church in Norwood, he served as a Eucharistic Minister for over 30 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., WESTWOOD on Sunday August 12th from 2-5pm. Funeral procession from the funeral home on Monday morning Aug. 13th at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Timothy's Church, 650 Nichols St., Norwood at 10:30am. Interment at New Westwood Cemetery. Donations may be made in Ralph's memory to the Ralph A. Buonopane Prize at Northeastern University, c/o Northeastern University Advancement Information Systems, 118 Cushing Hall, 360 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02115, or to VNA Hospice and Palliative Care, Fund Development Office, 199 Rosewood Dr, Ste 180, Danvers, MA 01923-4539.
