Peter Van Kleeck of Dover MA, a retired hotel executive, died at home on March 19th at the age of 82. Mr. Van Kleeck was born in Hartford CT and graduated from the Hotel School at Michigan State University. He devoted his career to operating hotels first with Sheraton including Resident Manager of the Sheraton Boston, Manager of the Sheraton Waikiki and later became a corporate Vice President and Director of Operations Support for the Sheraton Worldwide. Then for the next eleven years he was president and Chief Operating Officer of the Saunders Hotel Group which included three Boston landmarks, The Boston Park Plaza, Lenox, and Copley Square Hotels. He then became Vice President and Director of Administration and Hospitality Operations for the Nelson Companies in Waltham, MA. He completed his career as a management consultant retiring in 2019.
He was active in business and community organizations. He was a member of the board of directors of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and SRS Hotels in Frankfurt, Germany. He served for many years as the Vice Chairman of both the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Better Business Bureau. He was also the past Chairman of the Massachusetts Lodging Association and the Local 26 Taft Hartley Trust Funds. At the time of his death, he was an Emeritus board member of the Massachusetts Lodging Association and the Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau. He is also a life member of the Dallas Texas Chamber of Commerce and Beta Gamma Sigma, the national business honor society.
He leaves his loving wife Donna R. (Meola) Van Kleeck, a daughter Kimberli Considine of Westborough MA, a son Peter Kenneth Van Kleeck of Upton MA and four Grandchildren, Taylor, Amber, Connor and Skyler.
Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Trees in Memory at the Arbor Day Foundation, www.arborday.org registry.
