Norma L. Slater

SLATER, NORMA L., of Walpole, formerly of Needham, was born on July 17, 1941 in Butler, PA and died unexpectedly on August 17, 2018 in BIDMC, Boston, MA. Norma was married on May 20, 2004 in Needham MA to Jeanne M. Smith, her Life Partner and Wife for 33 years and is also survived by James G. Slater, her brother and his wife Jane, and many Slater and Smith nieces and nephews. She was the beloved daughter of the late Clarence G. and Lillian E. (Roe) Slater and sister of the late Donald C. Slater. Norma practiced as a Registered Nurse, (R.N.) then earned Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Credentials at Peter Bent Brigham, Boston. She was employed for 35 years at Joslin Diabetes Clinic, Boston. Norma was both a mentor and a role model at Joslin. During those years she also earned an undergraduate degree in Psychology from Emmanuel College, Boston. Norma was most proud becoming the first credited Nurse Practitioner at Joslin in 1976. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Thursday morning August 23 at 11am at The Congregational Church of Needham, 1154 Great Plain Ave., Needham, MA 02492. Interment will be private. Donations may be made in Norma's memory to the St. Francis House, 39 Boylston Street, Boston, MA 02116.
