Michael Joel, of Merrimack, NH, passed away on December 17, surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, BJ Joel; his daughter, Mallory Anzalone, of Dedham, MA; his son-in-law, Mark Anzalone; his beloved grandchildren, Ruby and Brooke Anzalone; his brother, Peter Joel; his sister-in-law, Gillian Dallwitz; and his sister, Marla Joel.

Michael was raised in Westwood, MA, and graduated from Westwood High School in 1974. He proudly served in the United States Navy, Seabees Division, before beginning an accomplished career as a marine construction commercial diver. He later transitioned into safety leadership, eventually serving as Senior Safety Manager for Suffolk Construction.

Michael loved the ocean and lived for his time spent vacationing in Cape Cod during the summers and Florida during the winters. An ardent sports enthusiast and devoted New England Patriots fan, he especially enjoyed watching games with friends and family. Above all else, Michael loved his family. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a proud grandfather. His humor, adventurous spirit, and generosity will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours at the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock Street, Westwood, on Saturday, January 3, 2026, from 3:00–6:00 PM. This will be an opportunity to celebrate Michael’s life with his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Hampshire Veteran’s Home: https://www.nh.gov/veterans/support/index.htm.
