Melissa Seavy Thorndike, beloved sister, friend, and artist, passed away on July 6, 2025, at the age of 74.
Melissa was the daughter of the late Bill and Chris Seavy. She was the devoted wife and widow of Augustus Thorndike III, with whom she shared a life of travel, joy and loving companionship. Melissa was predeceased by her sisters Cheryl Gutner and Diane Seavy, and is survived by her sister, Jennifer Pratt and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Bradenton, Florida, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Fine Art from the University of Florida. Melissa spent her adult years in Westwood, Massachusetts, where she built a life full of purpose, friendship, and beauty. She was a treasured part of the community, a loyal friend to many, skilled equestrienne and lover of all animals.
A gifted cook and creative force, Melissa founded Melissa’s Catering, a well-known local business that made weddings, gatherings, and special occasions unforgettable. Her discerning taste, attention to detail, and warm presence turned every event into something truly special.
Melissa was proud of her membership in The National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in The Commonwealth of Massachusetts. She enjoyed sharing her time and expertise at the William H Prescott House, NSCDAMA Headquarters and Museum in Boston. Her love of history and preservation reflected her appreciation for tradition, legacy, and culture.
Melissa will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and strength. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, the events she shaped, and the community she served. Please join her friends and family for a celebration of her life on August 23rd at ten o’clock at the Dover Church, 17 Springdale Ave, Dover, MA.
