Mary E. Walsh

Mary E. “Dede” Walsh, age 66 of Norwood, formerly of Westwood, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025.

Mary was the daughter of the late Joseph P. and Mary E Walsh of Westwood and stepdaughter of the late Natalie S. Walsh. Mary is survived by her brothers William J. and Lauren of Mashpee, John N. and Jaynellen of Walpole, and Michael C. and Meg of Milton as well as stepsister Natalie Woodward of Norwood. Mary was predeceased by her brother, Joseph K. “Jay” and Kathy formerly of Franklin and her stepsister and best friend Laura E. Schmatzler of Norwood.

She was the loving Aunt to 16 nieces and nephews who she termed them all as Buddy, as well as 9 grand nieces and nephews. Mary was quite involved in activities through Lifeworks and The Arc including a daily workshop, bowling, softball, and dances. The past 20 plus years Mary enjoyed her life at the Chatham Road group home. It was here where she lived with both childhood and new friends enjoying each other’s companionship. She also enjoyed summers at The Cape and especially family gatherings. She was always happy to participate in a conversation, often offering her thoughts and opinions, no matter the topic.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., Westwood on Wednesday March 12th from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 13th at 11am in St. Catherine of Siena Church, 547 Washington St., Norwood. Interment at Old Westwood Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Mary’s memory to Lifeworks, Inc. c/o Development at 789 Clapboardtree St., Westwood, MA 02090. 

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful and caring staff of Lifeworks, both at the administration level and the staff level at Chatham Road. The love and support provided to Mary was tremendous, always kind and compassionate.
