Mary T. (MacDougall) Russell, of Westwood, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at her home, Friday Dec. 12th. She was the daughter of Daniel and Margaret MacDougall and the eldest of eight children. She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing, a member of the US. Cadet Nurse Corp, and a Red Cross Nurse for over 30 years. As a resident of Westwood for more than 50 years, she was involved in many aspects of the town, leading both boy scout and girl scout troops, an active member in St. Margaret Mary Church, serving on the church board, and teaching CCD. In her later years she became a Board member of the Women's Club of Westwood, a participant in Great Expectations, and a volunteer at Glad Rags MSPCC.
Mary was a loving and devoted wife to her husband of 60 years, John F. Russell, by whom she was pre-deceased. She was a wonderful mother and adoring grandmother to her grandchildren.
She was pre-deceased by her siblings Elizabeth Morris, Paul MacDougall, and Daniel MacDougall.
Mary is survived by her sister Roberta MacDonald, (Hyde Park MA); and her three brothers James, (Hyde Park, MA); Ron (Sagamore Beach, MA); and John (Huntsville, Alabama). She is also survived by her children Sheila Roit (Lithia, FL) and Brian Russell (Great Falls, VA); and her grandchildren Alexandra, Caroline, and Samantha, (all of Great Falls, VA).
Calling hours will be held Friday Dec. 19th at Westwood Funeral Home from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A mass celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, December 20th at Saint Margaret Mary Church in Westwood, at 10:00am. Burial will follow the mass. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Red Cross (www.redcross.org) or Glad Rags MSPCC (www.mspcc.org).
