Mary H. McDonald

October 2, 1935 — June 10, 2025

Westwood, MA

Mary H. McDonald of Westwood passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025 following an illness.

Mary was born in Boston in October, 1935 to John and Julia Huban. Her parents had emigrated from Galway and Kinvara, Ireland and they maintained strong ties with their family back home. Mary attended Our Lady of the Presentation Academy in Brighton and then Fisher Junior College, where she earned her degree in legal studies. Through good friends, she met the love of her life, Danny, and they married on October 1, 1960 at Presentation Church. They eventually settled in Westwood to raise their family, which became the center of their lives.

Mary treasured her family, her friends from Brighton, Fisher and Westwood and her cousins here and in Ireland. She took great joy in providing a loving home, playing Irish music every Saturday morning, and keeping everyone on their toes with her quick Irish wit. She cherished her time with family and friends at their summer home on Cape Cod. She beamed at the arrival of each of her twenty-six grandchildren and loved to knit them a hat or sweater. Most recently, she was blessed with two great-granddaughters.

In addition to her devoted husband Danny, Mary leaves her seven loving children and their families: Brian (Katie), Linda Molchan (Rick), Kevin (Heather), Michael (Lisa), Scott (Chrissy), Stephen (Donna), and Jennifer Koch (Matt). She was predeceased by her parents, her brother John, and her daughter-in-law Lynnie. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Morgan (Gus), Daniel, Aidan, Julia, Michael (Michelle), Christopher, Katherine, Erin, Grace, Ryan, Molly, Kevin Jr, Kyle, Cassie, April, Michaela, Patrick, Daniel, John, Genevieve, Dylan, Brianna, Tess, Anna, William and Owen, as well as her great-grandchildren Layla and Marcella.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at Holden Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock Street, Westwood on Monday, June 16 from 4 to 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on June 17 at 11am at St. Denis Church, 157 Washington Street, Westwood. Interment at New Westwood Cemetery will immediately follow.
