Marie H. Morgan

Aug 1, 1928 — Oct 22, 2026

Dedham, MA, Osterville, MA & Westwood, MA

It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Marie H. Morgan who passed away at the age of 98 on October 22, 2026. May Marie enjoy eternal rest in heaven with her husband, Alex D. Morgan III, who predeceased her in 2008.

Born in Boston on August 1, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Alfred C. and Ellen (Hennessey) Hughes. Along with her siblings, Most Rev. Alfred C. Hughes of New Orleans, Rev. Kenneth J. Hughes, S.J., of Weston and the late Dorothy H. Callahan of Minnesota, she was raised in West Roxbury. Marie went on to receive her B.S. and later her M.Ed. from Boston Teacher’s College (now UMass Boston). She was a first grade teacher at the Agassiz School in Jamaica Plain and later at the Oakdale School in Dedham for a total of 31 years. Marie also was President of the BTC Alumni Association and elected to the Delta Kappa Gamma Honor Society for Teachers. She was a highly regarded mentor of student teachers. In 1959, Alex and Marie married and went on to raise their family in Dedham. Marie taught CCD and became a Eucharistic Minister at St. Denis Church and the Ellis Nursing Home in Norwood. When she and Alex retired in 1993, they moved to their newly built dream home in Osterville that Alex designed. They enjoyed many years of hosting family gatherings and welcoming their grandchildren. They also enjoyed their travels in Europe, the U.K. and throughout the U.S. Marie was actively involved in Our Lady of Victory parish through its Prayer Shawl Ministry, Women’s Bible study groups and baptismal bibs project. She and Alex were active in the community where they were volunteers with Meals on Wheels and supported the Hyannis Food Pantry. Marie embraced continuous learning, picking up new skills and perfecting her sewing talents with a treasured quilting group. Along the way, Marie made friends of all ages. She was an amazing caretaker for Alex during his ALS journey. Later she moved to Fox Hill Village in Westwood where she spent over 13 happy years, welcoming new residents and playing Rummikub (which became part of family competitions along with the daily Wordle) and Mahjong. She also participated in pool and other exercise classes at Fox Hill. Keeping active kept her going!

Marie is survived by her loving children: Mary Ellen Morency and her husband Larry of Osterville, A. Donald Morgan IV and his wife Paula of Wayland and David Morgan of Bridgewater. She was a beloved Grammy to Samantha Morgan (Sam Sullivan), Sydney Morgan (Shawn Cornillot) and Sean Morgan. She also leaves four great-grandchildren, Sophia, Penny and Natalie Sullivan and Cooper Cornillot.
