Marie A. Lawlor

Marie A. Lawlor (Cheney) of Westwood, formerly of Dorchester, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her loving family, on October 29, 2023. She was 92 years old.

Loving mother of the late Stephen M. Lawlor and Patricia formerly of Quincy, Thomas F. Lawlor and wife Aida of Foxboro, Robert B. Lawlor and wife Lori of Mansfield, Marie A. O’Leary and husband David of Westwood, Joseph M. Lawlor and wife Moira of West Medford, John J. Lawlor and wife Sheri of Tennessee, Ann M. Lawlor of Florida, Michael S. Lawlor and wife Michelle of Walpole, and Karen M. Leonhardi and her husband David of Scituate. She was the incredibly proud grandmother of 30 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Robert J. Lawlor.

Daughter of the late Stephen and Ethel Cheney of South Boston, Marie grew up in Dorchester where she attended Dorchester High School. Marie was the loyal younger sister to six older brothers who predeceased her. Stephen Cheney and sister-in-law Louise, Joseph and sister-in-law Evelyn, Daniel and sister-in-law Ann, Leo, Paul and sister-in-law Jean and Thomas and sister-in-law Barbara. She is survived by her sister-in-law Patricia Cheney of Brockton. Marie was also the beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

Marie proudly and singlehandedly raised her nine children in Dorchester while working for the Archdiocese of Boston for 32 years in both Saint Mark’s parish in Dorchester and Holy Ghost parish in Whitman. She lived a life built on the foundation of faith which was instrumental in raising her family. We will miss her overall presence at the head of the table of our family functions, especially birthday celebrations with the original “Nana” version of Happy Birthday.

In retirement Marie enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, and visiting Cape Cod. She also served as a volunteer at the Westwood Council on Aging for many years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock Street, Westwood, MA on Sunday afternoon Nov. 5^th from 2-6pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday morning, Nov. 6th at 10:00am in Saint Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St, Westwood, MA. Following the Mass, interment will be at the New Westwood Cemetery, Westwood.
