Margaret Hayden Chambers , long time resident of Claybrook Road in Dover, MA, died peacefully in Putnam CT on Feb. 24, 2025. Margaret was the 3rd and youngest daughter of Charles T. and Nellie Hayden of New Britain CT. She is pre-deceased by her husband John W. Chambers (2005) and sisters BettyAnne Geiger of Wayland, MA and Jane Hayden of Washington, DC.
Raised in New Britain CT and a Moreland Hill School graduate, Margaret then attended Tufts University graduating in 1954. After college she worked as a schoolteacher - first in Washington DC then for many years in Wellesley MA before getting married and raising a family. She met her husband John when they both lived in the same building on Beacon Hill in Boston. They dated for several years and were married in New Britain in July 1965 and welcomed their son John the following July. Jane, Megan and Matthew followed.
The Chambers first lived in Waltham, MA then moved to Dover in 1970, where they were active community members and Margaret could often be found at daily Mass. In 2015 Margaret moved to Maine where she resided at OceanView at Falmouth until 2022. She then moved to Putnam, CT.
Margaret is survived by her children, son John and his wife Sarah Lewis and grandsons Jackson and William Chambers of Woodstock CT, daughter Jane Mackinnon and husband Glen and granddaughters Lulu and Rosie Mackinnon of Mercer Island, WA, and son Matthew of Portland ME, his daughters Cassidy and Julia Chambers and their mother Lesli Chambers of Yarmouth, ME as well as a connected and supportive extended family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., Westwood on Wednesday March 5th from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday March 6th at 11am in Most Precious Blood Church, 30 Centre St., Dover. Following the Mass, interment at Highland Cemetery, Dover.
