Leona Claire (Smith) (Britton) Briggs, of Fox Hill Village, Westwood, MA formerly of Needham, MA and Framingham, MA died December 3, 2021.
Loving mother of Lisa Hedrick and her husband Steven of Holliston, MA and Maribeth Breen and her husband Jack of CT, Roben Selditz and her husband David of ME, Leon R Briggs, III of FL, Lance Briggs, MD and his wife Cindy of NC, and Rebecca Chafel, DVM of IL, and adored grandmother of Kristen and Kate Hedrick, Kylah and Corey Breen, Sam and Andrew Briggs, and Franny Chafel.
Born in Quincy, MA, she is predeceased by her late husband, Leon R. Briggs Jr., her two brothers Eugene and Sidney Smith, sister Carolmarie Smith; and her first husband John J. Britton Jr. who died in 1973.
Leona was a graduate of Framingham Teachers College, class of '51. She started her career as an elementary school teacher, and she retired as the Director of Public Information at Framingham State College. After retiring, Leona became an accomplished Quilter and shared her knowledge and love of the craft with her many students and colleagues.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours at the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St. WESTWOOD, on Sunday December 12, from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Funeral from the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home on Monday morning, December 13, at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass Christian Burial at St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood at 10:00 a.m. Interment immediately following at Needham Cemetery.
