Kevin Francis Macdonald, after a long battle with illness, of Norwood, MA, passed away early Saturday morning July 23rd surrounded by love. He was 76 years old. Kevin is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Miriam 'Mim' (Burvill) and daughters Kelley and Casey (of Quincy). Kevin also left behind his loving siblings Betsy Macdonald, Kate Macdonald, Laughlin Macdonald and wife Cassie, Susan Macdonald, Crandon Macdonald and Polly Malloy. He was pre-deceased by his parents Laughlin & Irene (Stickney) Macdonald and brother Thomas Macdonald. Kevin was blessed to further be surrounded by cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces/nephews, in-laws, coaches, players, teammates, classmates and wonderful friends too numerous to mention.
Kevin was a proud 1964 graduate of Westwood High School who was then drafted into service in Vietnam where he received a Purple Heart while serving with the Lima Company 3rd Battalion/3rd Marines in 1967. Upon returning to Massachusetts he attended college, spent several years coaching and teaching and eventually settled into a long career in electronic device sales. Despite it no longer being his profession, Kevin never stopped coaching. His coaching titles throughout the youth fields and gyms of Norwood were numerous and his support of the local teams continued until the end.
Kevin's greatest joys were attending New England Patriots games with his family, playing golf with his friends at Foxborough Country Club, sitting by Crescent Lake in Maine, morning coffees with his Dunkin crew and cheering on the Braintree High Girls Basketball Team. He had a knack with people that made anyone and everyone he associated with want to be his friend and drinking partner.
The original #girldad, Kevin's proudest moments were watching his daughter Kelley win 4 State Championships as an assistant coach with Braintree Girls Basketball and daughter Casey work for the New England Patriots for 3 of their Super Bowl Titles.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St. WESTWOOD on Sunday July 31ST from 2-6pm. Interment will be private. The Celebration of Life will be held at Gillette Stadium Putnam Club August 20th from 11-2.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Veteran Services of Norwood, c/o Norwood Town Hall, 566 Washington St., Norwood, MA 02062 and make the check payable to Norwood Military Family Support Group, or a donation may be made in Kevin's memory to your local Youth Sports or Boosters program.
