BERRY – Kathlyn (Murphy) "Kassie", 98, died peacefully after a brief illness on October 25, 2014. Her devoted family had an opportunity to share their love with her before she passed. She will be greatly missed and is survived by her loving children Stephen Berry and his wife Cathyann of Hamilton, Ohio; Anne Berry Goodfellow and her husband John of Westwood; and her daughter-in-law Margaret Dinneen Berry of Hyannis. Kassie was preceded in death by her parents, Patrick Joseph Murphy and Rita Sheehan Murphy; her cherished husband John J. Berry "Jack"; and four of her six beloved children, Evelyn, Kathleen, John and David. She was treasured by 10 grandchildren: Patrick, Kim, Chris, Seanna, Kevin, Julianne, Katie, Scott, Johnny and Greg. She also leaves 8 great-grandchildren: Danielle, Kiran, Nadia, Jocelyn, Maeve, Jackson, Eveline and Nora.
She was born in New York City on June 19, 1916, and married Jack on December 26, 1940, in Chicago. Kassie and Jack raised their family as they moved from Chicago to Kansas City to Stamford, Conn. They built a home together overlooking the Bass River in South Dennis in 1976, and Kassie lived there until 2013 when she moved to Goddard House in Brookline. Kassie was a devout Catholic and dedicated her life to faith and quiet good works. She loved words and literature, and continued to read avidly, play Scrabble and solve crossword puzzles right up until the end of her long life.
Relatives and friends are warmly invited to attend visiting hours and celebrate Kassie's life at the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock Street (off Route 109), Westwood on Friday, October 31, from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday morning, November 1st, at 9 am at Saint Susanna Parish, 262 Needham Street, Dedham. Interment at New Westwood Cemetery.
