SERGE, Katherine, of Westwood, died November 12, 2018, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Beloved sister of Carol (Serge) Maher and her husband Brian of NY and Evelyn (Serge) Hennessy and her husband Richard of FL. Devoted aunt of Brian and Michael Maher and Cathleen Antokal. Daughter of the late George and Katherine Serge.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Visitation in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., WESTWOOD, on Tuesday morning November 27th from 8:30 - 9:30 am. Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood at 10:00 am. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Katherine's memory to Susan G. Komen for Metastatic Breast Cancer Research on-line @ ww5.komen.org or Susan G. Komen Dept. 41831 PO Box 650309 Dallas TX 75265.
Katherine grew up on Staten Island, NY, one of three sisters, graduated from Tottenville High School in 1971 and Staten Island Community College and became an RN in 1973. Katherine received her Bachelor of Science from Northeastern University and her Masters of Public Administration from Suffolk University. Katherine was the charge nurse in the Dialysis Unit at Brigham and Women's Hospital. As an accomplished medical professional, Katherine was recognized by physicians, staff, and patients for her tireless advocacy and unequaled clinical instincts all within the context of her dry, inimitable wit. Katherine was responsible for training some two hundred academic nephrologists during her extensive medical career. Katherine was an avid gardener and her horticultural acumen is resplendent among the exceptionally beautiful plantings at her home. Her keen sense of design is manifest throughout her meticulously appointed home. Katherine's sisters wish to acknowledge the devoted Massachusetts General medical team and the exceptional home care Katherine received from Anne O'Grady of Clare Senior Care and her amazing staff.
