June White Clay

d. April 4, 2022

Clay, June White, of Westwood, MA and Mattapoisett, MA, and previously from Acushnet, MA, passed away peacefully on April 4th, surrounded by family. She was 93 years old.

Born in New Bedford, she was the second child born to the late Raymond A. and Erma (Morse) White. She was the last surviving member of a large family of seven, including one sister and five brothers. She loved her childhood, speaking often about how much she enjoyed growing up in Acushnet, where her brothers joined their father in running the family business, White's Farm Dairy. After graduating from New Bedford High School, June moved to Boston, where she attended the Boston School of Fashion Design, followed by employment by Sears Roebuck where she instructed sewing and dress design. Boston is where she met her husband Neal, and the two eventually moved to Westwood to raise their family.

During her childhood, she spent summers in Mattapoisett, MA with her grandmother, and where eventually June and Neal purchased a vacation home. She loved Mattapoisett, and shared her love of painting, walking on the beach, collecting seashells, beach glass, and making crafts with family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed puzzles and playing games with her grandchildren.

June was known for her creativity and was an accomplished artist. She held memberships in various art associations and participated in many art shows where she won numerous awards. June's home in Mattapoisett holds a piece of her artwork on every wall. Her work is cherished by many and is found throughout homes on Point Connett in Mattapoisett and the surrounding area. June was also an active member at the First Parish Church in Westwood and a volunteer at the Westwood Public Library.

She was the beloved wife of the late Neal Clay Sr. and is survived by three sons and four grandchildren, Neal Clay and wife Elayne, their children Douglas and Neal Jr., Dana Clay and his partner Carol Mucci-Kingston, and Bruce Clay and wife Beth, and their children Nevin and Emily. June was predeceased by her son David Clay.

Visiting hours will take place Thursday, April 21, 2022 at Holden-Dunn-Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock Street, Westwood, MA from 4-8PM, with a short time of reflection and remembrance at 7:00pm. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made on June's behalf to the Mattapoisett Land Trust.
