WHITNEY, Joseph C., 85, of Edgartown and Westwood, died October 31, 2012. Beloved husband of the late, Doris "Bubbie" Holbrook Whitney. Brother of the late Robert W. Whitney, Jr., the late Fanny Blair, the late Mary Haussermann and the late Dorothy Nelson. He is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth W. Woodard and her husband, William, of Westwood, Lee W. Forrest of York, ME, Pamela W. Duncan and husband, Marvin of Marblehead, and his companion, Hope Register of Edgartown and Westwood. He is also is survived by six grandchildren. Joseph was a graduate of the Fenn School, Noble & Greenough School and Babson College. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945 – 1946. Joseph's business career included the founding of Robin Hood's Barn, a men's and women's clothing and gift store. In addition he served for more than 30 years as the chief executive officer of Executive Airlines, Air New England and NorEast Airlines. A memorial service is planned for 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Saint Paul's Church, 59 Court St., Dedham, MA. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Joseph's memory to the Dana – Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Avenue, Boston, MA 02215; or the Martha's Vineyard Hospital, 1 Hospital Road, Oak Bluffs, MA 02557.
