John Lebert Rezendes

November 10, 1940 — July 26, 2024

Westwood, MA

The loving family of JOHN LEBERT REZENDES of Westwood, MA, mourns his passing on July 26, 2024, at the age of 83. He was born in Somerville, MA, on November 10, 1940, to Florence (Arancio) Rezendes and Lebert Rezendes.

John met Helen (Kiriluk) on Cape Cod and they were married on June 22, 1974. After moving to Westwood, they added two daughters to their family. John is survived by his wife, Helen, daughter Laryssa (Florence, Italy), daughter Devany and her husband Alex Gillet and their son Grayson (San Diego, CA), his siblings and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

John loved cars - everything about them - driving, tinkering, amateur car racing, and car auctions. Travel was another passion - Italy, European river cruises, and Las Vegas in particular. An animal lover, he spoke fondly of his childhood dog Queenie, of the family cat Taffy, and was always ready with treats on hand to give to the neighborhood dogs out for their daily strolls. He also loved spaghetti all'olio. He really loved Costco, too, but more than anything, he loved his friends and family.

The eldest of seven children, as a young man he combined school and work in order to help contribute and support the family. And he was beyond generous with his daughters. He was always there to cheer them on at volleyball and field hockey games, make sure they learned how to ride a bike and not crash the car into the garage, and just be there for them. And of course make sure they appreciated the value of coupons. His "frugality" was a source of pride, amusement - and sometimes frustration! - for those who knew and loved him. He made lasting connections with a lot of people, be it the amazing medical team at Dana Farber, his favorite bank teller, or his trusted pharmacist.

John showed caring and thoughtfulness through his actions. His wonderful laugh, helpful "lectures," kindness and spirit will be truly missed but not forgotten.

As per his wishes, final arrangements will be private.
