Kovaly, John J., of Dover, passed away peacefully on September 18 at age 90, surrounded by his loving family. In addition to his beloved wife, Joan (Misiewicz), he is survived by a daughter, Pamela and her husband Kevin O'Brien of Sudbury and son, Kurt and his wife Rebecca of Dighton and 8 grandchildren – Courtney, James, Allison, Stephanie Cullen and her husband, Brian, Nathaniel, Naomi, Samuel, Joshua and a great-granddaughter, Summer. He also leaves his sisters Ann Louise Petras of McKeesport, PA and Irene Milasincic of Pittsburgh, PA. He was an alumnus of McKeesport High School class of 1946, where he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1988. He received a B.S. (summa cum laude) from Muskingum College in Ohio in 1950 and M.S. degree from the University of Illinois in 1953, where he was a doctoral candidate in physics. He served as a lieutenant in the United States Navy and was employed by Raytheon Co. for 30 years. He became a Consulting Engineer – the highest professional scientific level. He was Program Manager of Engineering Services for the Patriot Missile System. John was the author of the book, "Synthetic Aperture Radar," as well as many published papers on radar and communications. He was a lecturer at UCLA and Northeastern University. He was made Fellow in IEEE in 1981. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on October 1 at Most Precious Blood Church, 30 Centre St., Dover at 11 a.m. Interment will be private at the MA National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's memory to Most Precious Blood Church of Dover, MA.
