John J. Fox

March 14, 1940 — June 7, 2024

Westwood, MA & Salem, MA

John J. Fox, age 84, of Westwood, MA originally from Salem, MA died June 7, 2024. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Louise (Crowley), father to Carolyn Fox of Foxborough, Christopher Fox and his wife, Kimberly, of Manhattan Beach, CA, Jonathan Fox of Westwood, and Jennifer Fox of Foxborough. Loving grandfather (Papa) to Samantha and Conor Cremin and Colin, Fiona and Reilly Fox. Brother to Mary Johnson and her husband, William, of Ipswich, MA. Son of the late Gertrude and William Fox of Salem, MA.

A proud alumni of Saint John’s Preparatory School (1958), College of the Holy Cross (1962) and the New England School of Law (1966).

John was married to Louise for 59 years. Beyond the benefits of family life, they shared a large, long-lasting, circle of friends.

Present in the smoke-filled rooms of the State House, back in the day, John was passionate about politics. He often enlisted his children in his endeavors which included holding campaign signs, knocking on doors and handing out brochures during election seasons.

He was a practicing attorney and member of the Massachusetts Bar for over 50 years. In 2016, he was the recipient of the Judge Leo J. Lydon Award “in recognition of (his) outstanding service and advocacy on behalf of the children and families of Massachusetts.” His work had meaning, and lives on.

John always loved the Cape. In his later years, nothing gave him greater joy than when he and his wife had all the grandchildren together for a summer vacation. If he could squeeze in a round or two of golf, so much the better.

Florida provided a break from the cold winters. As always, they had no shortage of friends to spend time with in the sun.

In addition to golf, he was an avid fan of the Boston teams. His children have many fond memories of the Boston Garden and Fenway Park, outings that usually included dropping in at Doyle’s Café for a “quick one.”

He also enjoyed gardening and grocery shopping with a shoebox full of coupons.
