Jason Lang McManus – age 45 of Sandwich, Massachusetts, died unexpectedly from a brief illness on February 11, 2024. His family is deeply saddened by his sudden loss.

Jason was born on October 13. 1978 to John A. and Elizabeth (Lang) McManus in Holyoke, Massachusetts. Jason grew up attending elementary and middle school at the Henry T. Wing School in Sandwich, Massachusetts. In 1993, he was a member of the South Shore Tigers AAU 14 and under Championship Basketball Team, founded by his father John. It was one of only a few teams in the nation that made the National Junior Olympics in Yakima, Washington. Jason received numerous medals and recognition from then Lt. Governor Paul Cellucci regarding his athletic abilities. In the same year he also helped capture the Eastern Massachusetts Title as part of the District 7 Championship Sandwich Babe Ruth All-Star Team due to his phenomenal pitching abilities. Jason was one of only three freshman students to ever be offered a spot onto Michael O’Brien’s Sandwich High School Varsity basketball team as a forward for the 1993-94 season and was extremely proud of to be a part of that Blue Knights team.  His love for basketball and baseball followed him throughout his life and he shared that great love for sports with his son. Jason attended Sandwich High School through his junior year and then was a 1997 graduate of Barnstable High School.

Jason’s extreme love for snowboarding brought him up to New Hampshire after high school working on Loon Mountain as a lift operator and part of the ski patrol. He delighted in traveling with his father, mother, and brother to New Hampshire growing up, and enjoyed bringing his wife and son up there whenever he could. Jason spent the last twenty years in the car business managing many local dealerships and was a very hard worker.  Music made him very happy, and he was a lifelong fan of the Wu-Tang Clan.

On December 12, 2011 Jason married the love of his life and best friend Katie, who he grew up with in Sandwich on the same street as children. They married in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Together, Jason and Katie built a beautiful life together based on mutual adoration, fun, and laughter. On May 31, 2012, Jason’s greatest accomplishment was born, his son Ryan.  Jason and Ryan made many cherished memories together, whether it was playing basketball, bike riding, playing video games, or listening to music when going on their many special adventures together. Jason took great pride in his wife and son and never failed to show his love for the two of them every day that he was on this Earth.

Jason is survived by his wife Catherine E. (Marnik) McManus and his son Ryan M. McManus, both of Sandwich, Massachusetts. He is also survived by his mother Elizabeth McManus of Santa Fe, New Mexico, his in-laws Martin and Nancy Marnik of Sandwich, Massachusetts, and his cousins Lisa and Kurt Juergens of Foxboro, Massachusetts. Jason is also survived by his furry best friend that he adored, his Shih Tzu named Allie.  Jason also had many cousins on his mother’s side for whom he cared for dearly.

Jason was predeceased by his second son Matthew J. McManus who passed away in February 2014, his father John A. McManus, his brother Erik J. McManus, grandparents Philip and Irene Lang, and grandmother Dawn McManus.
