Russell, Janet Louise, 95, of Framingham passed away peacefully on the April 1, 2017 at the Tippett Hospice Home in Needham. Beloved daughter of Frederick and Edna Burns of Newton and Brookline. Sister of the late Phyllis Raimondi, Mimi Ingraham, Fred and Donald Burns. Loving wife of the late Francis A. Russell.
Devoted mother of Mary Ellen "Bunny" Furlong of Mystic, CT, Francis "Russ" Russell of Costa Rica and Bar Harbor ME, Joan Chambers of East Falmouth, Nancy Nugent of Lynn and Cynthia Moretti of Milford. Janet enjoyed 15 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
Born in Newton on November 19, 1921, Janet graduated from Brookline High School and attended the College of William and Mary and Radcliffe College.
Janet resided in West Newton, Needham, West Springfield and Sudbury before moving to Nuremberg, Germany, with her husband and youngest child in the 1970's.
While in Germany, she became president of the German American Women's Club and travelled extensively throughout Europe.
She returned to the US after her husband's death in 1973 and lived in Millis before moving to Framingham in 1980. During this time, Janet worked at the Bank of Boston for ten years.
In later years, Janet met Paul Le Croix, and their fond companionship brought joy to her life for more than a decade. Together they travelled to France, Saint Martin, Bermuda and the West Coast. Having lost her sister Mimi early, Janet grew very close with her sister, Phyllis. They also enjoyed many trips together, including a Thelma and Louise adventure, driving to Florida in their late 80's.
Throughout her life Janet was an excellent bridge player and was a life master. In her final days, she taught bridge to fellow residents at the Heritage in Framingham where she lived for the last five years. Janet was also a voracious reader, loyal Red Sox and Patriot fan, loved solving crossword puzzles, bowling, and enjoyed knitting for charities. Celebration of Life Services to follow.
