James Walker Storey, 79, long-time resident of Dover, MA, passed away peacefully with family on January 2, 2014. Born in Bridgeport, CT on April 25, 1934, son of Gretchen Mills Storey and James Walker Storey, Jim attended Mt. Lebanon High School, Mt. Lebanon, PA (1951) and later graduated from MIT (1955) and earned his J.D. at Harvard Law School (1958). He started his career as a consulting engineer for Ford, Bacon and Davis and then became Executive Vice President /Secretary-Treasurer of Hydrometals. He was the former President and Chief Executive Officer of Codex Corporation, a subsidiary of Motorola, Inc., retiring in 1986. Jim was a former Trustee of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and former Board member of several companies, including Westerbeke Corp., Emulex and Progress Software.
Jim was an avid sailor, enjoying many adventures on the Bounty, up the coast of Maine and throughout Nantucket Sound with family and friends. He was the former owner of Plymouth Marine and former member of the New Bedford Yacht Club and the Blue Water Sailing Club. For years he was passionate about golf and gardening, perfecting his yard and raising thousands of tomatoes, hostas and lilies to share with others.
Jim is survived by his wife of 46 years, Nancy Higgins Storey and his children Elizabeth (Liza) and her husband James Brew of Westwood, William (Bill) and his wife Cheryl Storey of Shelburne, VT, Margaret (Meg) and her husband Laurence Groves of Cornwall, VT and Samuel (Matt) Storey of Dover. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kyle Brew of Arlington, VA, Greer and Walker Storey and Malcolm, Gretta and Lucy Groves, as well as step granddaughters Carey Sivori of Ashburn, VA and Shauna Brew of Miami, FL and by his sister, Emily Foster of Danvers, MA. He was predeceased by his first wife, Carolyn Secrest Storey in 1964.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 2:00 P.M. at the Dover Church, Dover, MA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Gordon Cancer Center, Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, Burlington, MA 01805.
