James M. “Jim” Nolan, 97, of Norwood died on Thursday, February 13 with family by his side. Born in Albany, NY on April 16, 1927 son of the late John J. and Rose (Brumaghin) Nolan. He was predeceased by his loving wife Lydia of 63 years, as well as his siblings John Nolan and Mary Nolan. He is survived by his children, Susan (Gary) Landry, Newburgh, ME; James M.(Malkit) Nolan Jr., Franklin, MA; Gregory P. (Elaine) Nolan, Hanover, MA; Jean M. Nolan, Arlington, MA; Anne M. (James) McGlame, Medfield, MA; grandchildren James M. (Louise) Nolan III, Boston, MA; Joseph M. (Denise) Nolan, Medway, MA; Caroline E. (Robert) Doran, Pembroke, MA; John G. Nolan, Queens, NY; Katherine E. Nolan, Somerville, MA; Emily J. McGlame, Boston, MA; Nolan G. McGlame, Boston, MA; Liam and Mia Nolan-Hayun, Franklin, MA and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Lyla, and Madelynn Nolan, Medway, MA and Charles and Timothy Doran, Pembroke, MA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Jim was a loving family man. His greatest joy came from watching his grandchildren participate in various activities. He was involved in his community, serving as a Town Meeting Member in Norwood, and as a member of St. Margaret Mary parish. Enlisting in 1945 Jim proudly served in the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Canisteo (AO-99), an auxiliary oiler. Jim began his professional journey in Albany, where he enjoyed a career in newspapers, taking him to Virginia working for the Newport News. Later he settled with his family in Norwood, holding positions at the Boston Herald, Herald Traveler, and Boston Record American. Jim later served as Consumer Relations Director for Narragansett Brewery in Cranston, Rhode Island. Prior to his retirement, Jim was VP and General Manager for Redemco, Inc./ Universal Beverage, Inc. in Avon, MA. Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication to his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St. (off Route 109) Westwood on Wednesday morning February 19th from 9:00 – 10:30 am. Following the visitation a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Margaret Mary Church at 11:00 am. Interment with Military Honors at New Westwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in James’s memory to The Butler Foundation or to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
