James R. MacKinnon, “Jim”, a resident of Westwood, MA for over 50 years died Thursday, May 30, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was 86 years old. Jim was born June 28, 1937 in Needham, MA and was the son of the late Patrick Russell and the late Flora Mae (Saunders) MacKinnon, both immigrants from Nova Scotia, Canada.
Jim was a graduate of Needham High School, Needham, MA Class of 1956 where he was a superb athlete, particularly in baseball as a “southpaw”, and where he made many life-long friends.
Jim had a strong appreciation for nature and wildlife which were often subjects of the many watercolor pictures he enjoyed painting.
He was the beloved husband of the late Pauline (Clark) MacKinnon and loving father of Michele Ann MacKinnon and Glen Clark MacKinnon both of Westwood, MA. He was the devoted grandfather of Olivia Rose MacKinnon and Cooper Clark MacKinnon both of Walpole, MA. He was recently predeceased by his cherished sister Barbara E. (MacKinnon) Vito of Dedham, MA. In addition, he was “Grampy” to his loving grandpup Kane Brown MacKinnon. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins in the U.S. and in Canada.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock Street, Westwood, MA on Thursday June 6th from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning June 7th at 10:30am in St. Timothy Parish, 650 Nichols Street, Norwood, MA. Interment private.
