James M. Doherty

Doherty, James Michael Sr., of Westwood, MA, formerly of Jamaica Plain, died December 16, 2021. Beloved husband of Bridget (McGonigle) Doherty for 62 years. Loving father of Robert Doherty and wife Linda of North Dighton, MA, Catherine Reynolds of Dedham, MA and James Doherty Jr. and Wife Sandra of Westwood, MA. Cherished grandfather of Brian Reynolds, Megan Reynolds McLaughlin, Andrew Reynolds, Devin Doherty, Brandon Doherty, Bridget Doherty and Cameron Doherty. Loved Great Grandfather of Stephen Reynolds, Zoanna Reynolds, and Aidan Reynolds. Also survived by his brother Joseph Doherty and wife Alice and many loving nieces and nephews.

Papa Jim had a personality that when he walked into a room, there was no mistaking that the party had just begun. One of his favorite pastimes was gathering his children and grandchildren around to tell stories from his days in Germany, that of course everyone had heard hundreds of times, but still enjoyed every second of listening to it again. In his downtime he enjoyed sitting in his backyard looking out at Buckmaster Pond, listening to Irish music, playing his accordion or reading a good book.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at the Holden, Dunn, and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock Street Westwood, Ma on Thursday morning December 23, 2021 from 9:00AM-10:30AM. Following the visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Margaret Mary Church, 845 High Street Westwood, MA at 11:00AM. Interment with military honors at New Westwood Cemetery to follow.
