Irene Akemi (Sakano) Giordano, 81, of Dover, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 10, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Shoshone, Idaho, on May 29, 1944, Irene was the cherished daughter of the late Jiro and Miyuki Sakano.
Raised in Mountain View, CA, Irene graduated from Los Altos High School before continuing her education at San Jose State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing. Her passion for healthcare led her to later acquire her Master of Business Administration, marking the beginning of a lifelong career dedicated to the nursing profession. Irene worked within the Veteran Administration Health System, where she provided compassionate care to countless individuals, embodying her commitment to service.
Irene was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 32 years, Frank D. Giordano. She leaves behind her two devoted daughters, Kim Bert of Fayetteville, AR, and Lana Schumacher-Beal and her husband Benjamin of Dover, MA. Irene was also a proud grandmother of three: Derek Ehrsam of Los Gatos, CA, and Brooklyn and Brienna Beal of Dover, MA. She will be lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren, Rylie and Penelope Ehrsam of Los Gatos, CA, as well as her two sisters, Julia Clark and Pamela Comstock, both of Merrimack, NH.
A memorial service to honor Irene's life will be held at the National Cemetery in Bourne, MA, Connery Avenue Buzzards Bay, on Friday May 22 at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Irene's memory can be made to Wounded Warrior Project: https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org
Irene's warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to the well-being of others will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
