Henry Charles Riley

RILEY - Henry Charles, of Westwood, also of Dennis MA & Sarasota FL, died July 22nd, 2014 at home, embraced by the love of his adoring wife and daughters.

Born in Newton on March 23rd, 1932. Beloved husband of Patricia Ann (Buchanan) for fifty-two years and loving father of Lauren Riley Myrtetus and husband Jim of Doylestown, PA. and Carolyn Riley and Julie Riley of Westwood. Proud, loving grandfather of Jimmy, Sean, and Madeline Myrtetus. Brother of Barbara Jensen and husband Merle of N.C. and brother of the late Richard Riley. Also survived by loving nieces and nephews.

Professionally, Harry spent over forty years in Banking, of which thirty-eight were with BayBanks Inc., including many years at Harvard Trust Company in Cambridge. After graduating from Yale in 1954, he started in Banking at Bankers Trust Company in New York City and ended with retirement in 1997 at BankBoston (which two years earlier had acquired BayBanks). Along the way, he acquired a Master's in Business Administration degree from Boston College. After retiring, Harry stayed connected to Banking as a member of the FleetBoston Private Clients' Advisory Committee in Sarasota.

Harry's family was his number one priority and he cherished time spent with his family above all else. Over the years he was active in the Episcopal Church, as well as in numerous banking, civic and cultural endeavors. He loved the arts and was passionately involved as creator, patron, and supporter. He and Pat enjoyed season tickets to the Cape Playhouse in Dennis as well as opera and ballet performances in Sarasota. Harry appreciated the beauty of flowers and he found great joy in tending to his beautiful gardens. After retiring, he and Pat enjoyed taking European trips, mostly cruises. Harry was a man of strong faith and has been a longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He enjoyed serving organizations such as the Longy School of Music (1970-92), Cambridge C. of C. (1975-87), Rotary Club (1976-80), Yale Club-Boston and Yale Club of the Suncoast, among others.

Harry was a U.S. Navy Veteran.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St. (off Route 109) Westwood on Monday July 28th from 4-8pm. A Funeral Service will be celebrated in St. John's Episcopal Church, 97 Deerfield Ave., Westwood on Tuesday July 29th at 10am. Interment at Newton Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Henry's memory to the Cape Cod Museum of Art, Dennis, MA. Contact the business office at 508-385-4477 ext. 26.
