Harry L. Aaron

Harry L. Aaron Jr., 84 of Westwood, died peacefully on June 30, 2021. Born in Boston on July 3, 1936, to Loretta (Dalton) Aaron & Harry L. Aaron. Beloved husband of Patricia A. Aaron (Conway) of Westwood, father of Cheryl P. Aaron (Alex Campione) of Foxboro, Thomas F. Aaron of Westwood & Bryan P. Aaron (Erin Aaron) of Wrentham. Grandfather to Katlyn and Caroline Aaron of Wrentham. Brother to the late Joanne Carriere and Sheila Starratt. Dear uncle & cousins to many. Harry moved to Westwood in 1947 and was a proud resident for 74 years. He graduated from Westwood High School in 1954 and attended Dean Academy & Michigan State University before enlisting in the US Marine Corp. After boot camp at Parris Island, he was assigned to a small, special forces unit called 2nd Force Recon Co. consisting of 90 Marines who were all qualified para marines, where Harry made more than 50 parachute jumps. He also graduated from the US Navy Underwater Swimming school in Key West, FL and was later assigned to the US Naval Frogmen unit in St Thomas, V.I. Harry also completed extensive training aboard the USS Sea Lion submarine. After being discharged from the USMC, he was hired by the US Postal Service where he spent 51 years in various leadership positions, most notably as the long-time Postmaster of Norwood & Westwood. Harry gave much of his time to other organizations serving many roles including Executive Director of Massachusetts ESGR, National Ombudsman for the Department of Defense, a founding member & Chairman of the Westwood High School Sports Hall of Fame & the Westwood Memorial Day Parade committee where he served as the Grand Marshall in 2020. Harry received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Department of Defense for his contributions & celebrations for U.S. Congressional Medal of Honor recipients. His contributions to the town were immeasurable in coaching youth sports, PTO, engaging in local politics, and as a devoted member of the High Street Market softball team.
There was nothing Harry loved more than supporting his children & granddaughters, his 02090 friends, and his beloved Boston sports teams including his love-hate relationship with the Red Sox! Harry was never shy about giving out unsolicited advice, with some of his favorites being:" Use Your Head", "Do a Little at a Time" & "Don't Follow the Crowd." He will be remembered as the mayor of Westwood & as someone who would do anything to help others. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Westwood High School Sports Hall of Fame, 248 Washington St., Westwood, MA 02090.
A funeral mass will be held for Harry at St. Denis Catholic Church, 157 Washington St, Westwood, MA 02090 on Saturday, July 10 at 11:00 AM followed by a reception at Wellesley Country Club, 300 Wellesley Ave, Wellesley Hills, MA 02481. Friends & family are welcome.
