WHITE - Gwendolen W. (Fearing), 87, died peacefully, Wednesday, March 5, 2014. A resident of Westwood for much of her life, she spent her later years in Dover and then Newton. Born in Boston in 1926, she was the daughter of the late Vera Whistler Howell and George Richmond Fearing.
At an early age she moved with her family to Austria. The family returned to Westwood as war was breaking out in Europe. In her early years she was an avid horsewoman and skier. She later developed an interest in breeding and showing Old English Sheepdogs and Australian Shepherds, an interest which became a life-long passion.
In 1944 she married William (Bill) Brockie Foster, the father of her two children, Linda Foster White and William Brockie Foster. They met at Milton Academy. Widowed only a few years later, she then was married for a short time to a family friend, John Worrall, now deceased. After many years alone, Gwennie married James Cuthbert Hosken, father of her stepchildren, John Hosken and his wife Nancy Friedlander, Caroline Hosken Masters and her husband Christopher, and Andrew Hosken. After 26 happy years she once again was widowed. In 2002, she met and married Harmon White of Newton, father of Henry (Huck) White and Eleanor (Leni) Herzog. Their years together were very happy ones. Harmon passed away in 2006.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Foster White, and husband Robert E. White, Jr. of Medfield, and by her son Brock Foster, and wife Sara Hearne Foster of Norfolk. She also leaves three granddaughters, Alissa H. Kissell and husband John B. Kissell of Stowe, VT, Jennifer F. White and husband Peter J. Kuliesis of Arlington, Hatherly (Holly) Allan Foster of Norfolk and three great-grandchildren. Predeceased by a brother, George Richmond Fearing, she leaves behind a sister, Hesterly B. Buckley of Stowe, VT, a brother, Travers Fearing of Medfield. Other survivors include the spouses, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren from her other marriages, a number of nieces, nephews and many, many friends.
She was a member of the Afternoon Club, Ladies Dog Club and past member of Vincent Club and Junior League of Boston. She had also been a volunteer for the Salvation Army. She was a licensed Real Estate Broker.
We invite Gwennie's and our friends to join her family for a Celebration of Her Life to be held at the Wellesley College Club on the Wellesley College campus on Saturday, March 22 at 11 AM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name, Gwendolen W.
