Geraldine M. (Lanigan) Schweitzer

SCHWEITZER, Geraldine M. (Lanigan) of Westfield, formerly of Wareham, formerly of Westwood, died peacefully on April 1, Easter Sunday 2018. Beloved wife of Edward N. (deceased) and loving mother of Frederick Christian Schweitzer and his wife Patty (Murphy) of Westfield, Beth A. Schweitzer MD of Oakland, CA and Edward N. Schweitzer Jr. and his partner Ms. Dana White of Richmond, VA. Grandmother of Amy and her husband Al DiStefano of Southwick, Mary Kate Schweitzer of Wareham and Mae Schweitzer Petti of Oakland, CA and great-grandmother of A.J. and Annalise DiStefano. She is pre-deceased by brothers Robert J. Lanigan and Albert Lanigan. A graduate of Needham High School and Mount Ida College, she then became an American Airlines stewardess flying on DC-7's and Convairs. There she met her husband "Captain Eddy" with whom she was married for 63 years. She was an active member of the sodality of Saint Margaret Mary's parish in Westwood and a life-long member of the American Airlines Kiwi organization. She was caring, generous and charitable and known for her quick wit, intellect, humor and smiling Irish eyes. Throughout her life she was surrounded with family, friends, laughter and love. A funeral mass will be held on her birthday, July 31st at St. Margaret Mary Church of Westwood at 10 am. Interment will be at the new Westwood cemetery next door and a reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to St. Mary High School, 27 Bartlett Street, Westfield, MA 01085.
