Brennan --- George J. Jr. of Westwood, suddenly March 3, 2014. Beloved husband of 69 years to Ruth (Connington) Brennan. Loving father of Catherine Judith and John Barry of Medfield, George and Susan Brennan of VA, Denise and Richard Coyle of Medfield, Janice and William Oliver of Braintree, Patricia and Roger Poulin of West Roxbury and Susan and Robert McIntyre of Westwood. Devoted brother of Barbara Mullin of Needham and the late Frances Hogan Eshman, Winifred McCarty and Elizabeth O'Connell. Proud Papa and Grandpa to 24 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home 55 High Rock St. (off route 109) Westwood, on Friday, March 7, from 3:00 – 8:00pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Margret Mary Church 845 High St. (Route 109) Westwood on Saturday, March 8, at 10:00am. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery.
George was a Marine Corps Veteran, WWII. His awards and decorations include the Air Medal with 20 gold stars, the Navy Commendation Medal and a presidential Unit Citation. He is the recipient of 7 Distinguished Flying Cross with 7 Gold Stars. This is a rare and prestigious honor and his service is noted on a plaque at the Smithsonian World War II flight memorial. He was shot down twice in the South pacific and survived. In addition he received numerous other campaign and service medals. He flew the Douglas Dauntless Dive Bombers and the F4U Corsair during combat action from the South Pacific, up through the Central pacific to Okinawa completing 245 Combat Missions. George was an active member of the Marine Corp Aviation Association.
He was President Emeritus and co-founder of Bay State College, Boston and long time member of Walpole Country Club.
