Frederick "Fred" Andrew Hammel

HAMMEL, Frederick "Fred" Andrew, age 94, of Needham, MA formerly of Dedham, MA and Onset, MA and Kilmuckridge, Ireland, died peacefully at his home on April 17, 2021 surrounded by family.
He was born in Milton, MA, son of Joseph and Lillian (Crowe) Hammel. He was predeceased by his brothers James, Joseph, and Ned, and sister Kathleen.
Fred was the beloved husband of Catherine (O'Leary) for 63 years. He leaves his loving family: daughter and son-in law, Eileen and Bryan Greene, granddaughters Kari-Ann and Allison (Nelson Barrantes), great-grandsons Joseph, Oliver and Declan; daughter and son-in-law Anne and Robert Dunn, grandchildren Matt (Julie Jackson), Kelly and Hannah; son and daughter-in-law Frederick and Dana Hammel, grandchildren Ted, Nick and Grace; daughter and son-in-law Cathryn and Brian Howlett, grandchildren Andrew, Julianna and Emma; daughter and son-in-law Marianne and Bruce Beardsley, grandchildren Lilly, William, Thomas and Tess. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
Fred was a US Navy Veteran serving during the Korean War as an aerial photographer.
He will always be remembered as a gentleman to his fingertips and for his deep love for his family, his wit, laughing with friends, enjoying long summers in Onset, traveling with his wife Kitty – especially winter trips to Myrtle Beach, puttering around with a good project, wearing conflicting patterns and colors, and overseeing family photo shoots.
Visiting hours at Holden-Dunn-Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St, Westwood, MA on Wednesday, April 21st, from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary's of the Assumption, 420 High Street, Dedham, MA on Thursday, April 22nd, at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment immediately following Mass at Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Fred's name to Buzzards Bay Coalition.
