Heidelbach, Frank S.
Aged 90, Frank died December 1, 2010 at Newton Wellesley Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband for 35 years of the late Joan (Deyette) Heidelbach, and is survived by his step-daughter, Pamela G. Layton of Westwood, and her children, Margo, Alexander, and Sophie, his step-son, Jeffrey A. Gadboys of Gulf Breeze, FL, and his children, Carolyn, and Erin; his son David and daughter Lynne. He is also survived by his many friends, fellow poker players, and billiards companions at Fox Hill Village in Westwood, Massachusetts.
Frank was born on March 20, 1920 in Huntington, West Virginia and spent his youth in Danville, Virginia, where he graduated from George Washington High School in 1938 as President of his senior class. He then attended Hampden-Sydney College and graduated in 1942 from the University of Virginia, after which he immediately enlisted in the Army. During World War II, he served as Communications Officer with the 27th Photo Reconnaissance Squadron, rising to the rank of Captain. Following active duty, Frank was promoted to Major in the Air Force Reserves, and he served until his retirement from the military in 1956.
In 1953, Frank embarked on a successful career in financial accounting and management at Mobil Oil. He earned his M.B.A. from Columbia University in 1957, and represented Mobil on his many assignments in locations around the world, including Venezuela, England, France, Lebanon, and South Africa. Frank married Joan Deyette in Mamaroneck, NY in 1971 and moved with Joan and her two children, Pamela and Jeffrey, to Bermuda, where he managed Mobil’s off-shore captive insurance subsidiary. Frank retired in 1984 after 31 years with Mobil and moved back to the United States with his wife, where they spent several years in Rowayton, CT, Exeter, NH, and Peachtree City, GA, until they moved to Fox Hill Village in Westwood, MA in 2002.
Memorial services will be held at Fox Hill Village on Sunday, December 12. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s memory may be made to Hampden-Sydney College, Hampden Sydney, Virginia.
