DAVEY, Ellen (Craig) Age 89, of Westwood, Massachusetts, died peacefully at home April 18th surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of 59 years to the late John P. Davey. Loving mother to Joseph Davey and his wife Annemarie of Canton; Mary Morley and her husband Jeffrey of Wareham; Ann Davey and her partner Louis Love of Florida; the late Peter Davey and his surviving wife Kathleen; Jane Andrews and her husband Dean of Norwood; John Davey and his wife Katherine of Foxboro; and Faith Ellen Kimball and her husband Reid of Westwood. Grandmother to Michael, Daniel, Katie and Andrew; Cullen, John, Owen, Charlie and Hope Ellen; Luke, Veronica, Declan, and Eve; Sean, Meghan and the late Colin; William, Craig and Robert; Adam, Kristen and Erik. Devoted sister to the late Dr. John F. Craig of Waltham, and the late Mary Craig Nash of Falmouth. Cherished great-grandmother and aunt to all her great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Ellen was the Valedictorian of her high school, Marycliff Academy. She graduated Regis College, and was one of the first women to receive a Juris Doctorate from Boston College Law School class of 1954. After graduating from law school while raising her family, she undertook professional pursuits as a public defender for youths, marriage counsellor, and family lawyer. She was a voracious reader, political enthusiast, piano dabbler, and a singer of World War II songs. She especially enjoyed debating politics, reading and writing poetry. She leaves behind her treasured friends, including members of the Ladies Discussion Group to which she belonged for many years. Her guiding principles were kindness and generosity which she instilled in all seven of her children.
