GALLAGHER, Elizabeth A. "Betty" (MAUS), of Lakeville, MA and Fort Myers, FL, formerly of Westwood, MA, passed away peacefully at her FL home, on March 9, 2022, with family at her side. 96 ½ years young, she was born in Westwood (Islington) and continued to live and raise her family there with Francis "Frank", her beloved husband of 61 years, until their retirement. Devoted mother to 8 children: Frank Jr. (deceased), Sheila of Stoughton, Karen of Mansfield, Michael and wife Deborah of Westwood, Denise of Fort Myers, FL, Kevin and wife Patricia of Westwood, Brian and husband John Kiddon of Wickford, RI, and Shaun and wife Rocio of Bridgewater. Pre-deceased by her parents, Francis and Rosalia Maus (Lipp), and brother Francis; survived by sister-in-law Virginia Maus. Cherished grandmother of 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson; loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Betty lived each day with purpose, and stayed active and engaged with her family, church and community throughout her life. She had a sincere interest in people, from welcoming and orienting newcomers, and learning their personal stories, to readily sharing her "wisdom" with young and old alike. She thrived in the role of social director, starting with a mothers' bowling league and, later, planning group functions, cruises, bus trips and theatre outings. She and Frank traveled to many parts of the world but she found particular joy summering at her Lakeville cottage-- swimming, sailing, house painting, stone wall building, yard work and the like. Most especially, she enjoyed being joined there by her loving and ever-growing family. Well-versed in current events, Betty loved her Boston Globe and following the local sports teams. A faithful parishioner from the day St. Denis Church was built, she considered that her home parish and visited there when in the area.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Visiting Hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., Westwood on Thursday March 17th from 4-7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning March 18th at 10am in St. Denis Church, 157 Washington St., Westwood. Interment at New Westwood Cemetery.
