SCHWEITZER—Edward N., of Wareham, formerly of Westwood, died June 30th, 2015. Beloved husband of Geraldine M. (Lanigan) Schweitzer for 63 years. Loving father of Frederick Christian Schweitzer and his wife Patty (Murphy) of Westfield, Dr. Beth A. Schweitzer of Oakland, CA and Edward N. Schweitzer Jr. and his partner Ms. Dana White of Richmond, VA. Grandfather of Amy and her husband Al DiStefano of Southwick, Mary Kate Schweitzer of Somerville and Mae Petti Schweitzer of Oakland, CA and Great Grandfather of A.J. DiStefano.
Affectionately known as "Captain Eddy" he retired from American Airlines after 37 years of dedicated service as number one on the seniority list of 8400 pilots. A dedicated aviator and mechanic he once built a plane in his home garage. He retired to Wareham and enjoyed decades of sailing and boating from his home on the Weweantic River which led him to Buzzards Bay and beyond. He had an infectious smile befitting his wonderful sense of humor. His circle of compassion was extended to all living things. The outpouring of love and support from friends and family is a testament to how beloved he truly was.
All are invited to attend a Visitation in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St. Westwood on Tuesday morning July 7th from 9-10 AM. A service will be held at the funeral home at 10 AM. Interment with military honors will follow at the New Westwood Cemetery. A reception will follow.
Edward was a U.S. Navy Veteran of World War II.
