Edward Youssef Naim, age 87, of Wellesley Hills, MA, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Edward was born on July 11, 1937, and he was the beloved and devoted husband of Ann Marie Naim. Together they built a family and a life filled with love and laughter.
Edward was a wonderful, devoted father to Edward William Naim. He was predeceased by his parents Joseph and Nejma and his brothers and sisters (George, Georgette, Antoine, Antionette, and Joseph).
Edward was a world traveler, and he lived in London, Paris, and the Middle East at various points earlier in his life, studying science and conducting business. He fluently spoke three languages.
Edward had a passion for earth science and gemology. He received a degree in Gemology from Sir John Cass College (London, England) and was a Graduate Gemologist of the Gemological Institute of America.
Professionally, Edward was an entrepreneur. He was the respected owner of New England Gems / New England Gemological Laboratory, located for 41 years in the Jewelers Exchange Building in Boston. His business provided identification and appraisal services for gemstones and supplied diamonds and colored gemstones to jewelers.
Despite the demands of his business, he prioritized spending time with his wife and son. Many wonderful memories were built doing everyday things with his family, ranging from Celtics games to barbecues to picnics to museum visits to time at Nantasket Beach.
As a sign of the deep bond he had with his son, his son called him twice a day—everyday—to chat (if he wasn’t seeing him in person that day).
Edward will be remembered and cherished as a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. His loved ones will deeply miss his warmth, wisdom, and generosity. They will also miss his quick wit and humor—which made him quite the colorful character.
