HOBAN, Edward L. Attorney at Law, of Westwood, formerly of Dorchester, died April 9, 2011. "Neddo” Beloved husband and good friend of Joan Fagan Hoban. Devoted father of Stacie and her husband Richard Hopkins of North Attleboro; Leo and his fiancée Kristie Meirs and her daughter Laurana George of Walpole; Sheila of Attleboro; Siobhan Greenlee of Pawtucket, RI; Shawna Delia of Westwood; and Stephanie of Attleboro. Grandfather of Ryan P. Hopkins and Allyson M. Hopkins.

Attorney Edward L. Hoban of Westwood died recently. Mr. Hoban originally from Dorchester, where he was known as "Neddo", was the son of the late Capt. Leo E. Hoban, B.P.D., and Mary McKenna Hoban, of Dorchester. Mr. Hoban was a founding member of the Millrock A.C. in Dorchester.
Mr. Hoban was a disabled veteran of the Korean era. He served with the 9th Marines, Fleet Marine Force, extensively in the Far East. Mr. Hoban served as an agent of the U.S. Treasury Department for 28 years in various posts through out the United States. He retired in 1983 as a Supervisory Criminal Investigator in the Boston Office of the ATF. He was the recipient of numerous awards and commendations for exceptional performance over the years. He was the author of the ATF Manual for the enforcement of the firearms laws. During his career in ATF he was a strong advocate of the use of hypnosis as an investigative tool and was trained in its use at the FBI Academy. After his retirement from government service, Mr. Hoban returned to the private practice of law. Mr. Hoban was a "Triple Eagle", B.C. High '49, B.C. '53, and B.C. Law '60. He was a member of the Bar of the Supreme Court of the United Sates. He was a life member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He was a member of the Speckled Band of Boston. Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St. (off Route 109) Westwood on Wednesday April 13th from 4-8pm. The funeral will begin at the funeral home on Thursday morning April 14th at 9am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Mary Church at 10am. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edward’s memory to the charity of your choice.
