Johnston, Edna May (Storer) of Bellingham, formerly of Medfield and Jamaica Plain, passed peacefully March 26, age 91.
Wife of the late Thomas W. Johnston. Loving mother of Edna M. Sullivan of Braintree, Michael T. Johnston of Bellingham, Patricia E. Johnston of Braintree, Mary Elizabeth Johnston and her husband Stephen Capoccia of Westwood, David W. Johnston and his wife Barbara of Littleton. Grandmother of Jason Sullivan (Josie), Melissa and Andrea Sullivan, Amy Wallace Valle (Mark), Ryan Wallace (Dorothy), and Alana, Thomas and Julia Johnston. Great Grandmother of Annabella and Gabriella Valle, Amanda Sullivan and Mackenzie Wallace.
Born in Boston, she graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School for Girls and had an early career in business before meeting the love of her life, Thomas Johnston, a Marine aviator. Edna and Tom were married in 1947 and raised five children. As a widow with the sudden passing of her husband Tom in 1971, and with a family to raise, Edna used her early career skills to gain employment with top Boston area banks. She later moved the family from Jamaica Plain to Medfield in 1976, where she resided for a number of years. She retired from her position of Executive Administrator to the President of West Newton Savings Bank. She moved to Bellingham in 2003. Edna was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother for whom family always came first. She played piano and enjoyed gardening, golf and her Boston sports teams. Her greatest love was for family gatherings, homemaking and caring for Chloe her cat.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday March 28 in the Holden, Dunn and Lawler Funeral Home, 55 High Rock St., WESTWOOD from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday March 29, in St. Margaret Mary Church, 845 High St., Westwood at 10:00 am. Interment at Forest Hills Cemetery, Jamaica Plain.
